Every Ride Safe Ride is a program to support pediatric practices towards the safe transportation of children during every stage of development. The focus of the program is to address the barriers of time and knowledge faced by pediatric practices in counseling and screening for child passenger safety. While the use of safety seats is common, misuse of safety seats is also common. When seats are not used as intended by the manufacturers, the safety features are compromised. Pediatric practices play an important role in addressing misuse by screening and educating families In fact, child passenger safety is the only AAP Bright Futures topic recommended for discussion at every well child visit. Practices can receive training, tools, and technical assistance at no charge.
Training
Every Ride Safe Ride training is a free 1.5-hour child passenger safety training. The training is provided as enduring material and can be viewed asynchronously. The training is useful for anyone involved with educating families.
Training Objectives include:
- Public health impact of vehicle crashes
- Current child passenger safety laws in Virginia
- Best practices in child passenger safety
Continuing education available for completion of the training in the amount of 1.5 continuing medical credits and 1.5 contact hours from the following accrediting bodies:
- Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) through the providership of Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University.
- Virginia Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
