Community organizations play an important role in people’s lives. They are often a trusted source of information. If you are a member of a community organization who works with people who are pregnant or parenting, below are some resources for you. We recommend that you refer those individuals to one of the following resources:
- Their local health district (see here for a map to find their local health district and contact information). Connecting with your local health district can also be a good way for them to refer to you!
- Virginia 211: 211 Virginia is a free, confidential, and accessible service. It helps people get connected to community resources and services. Whether they need assistance with housing, food, healthcare, or other services, 211 Virginia can help. They can call 211, or visit their website to chat, email, or text for assistance.
Some community organizations also participate in Unite Us Virginia. This is a coordinated care network consisting of healthcare, government, nonprofit, and other community-based organizations that has a closed loop referral system for social needs. If you are interested in becoming involved in this network, please contact khalida.willoughby@vdh.virginia.gov.
