Home Visiting

Voluntary home visiting programs are an excellent option to help parents meet their needs. Home visiting programs connect parents to specific people who provide tailored support with parenting and child development. These people may include:

  • social workers
  • community health workers
  • nurses

Home visiting programs also offer referrals to resources for basic needs. Home visiting takes a two-generational approach. This means home visitors are working to help both parents and their children with their individual needs, which helps the whole family. Home visiting programs are focused, individualized, and culturally competent services. They focus on expectant parents, young children and their families. Services are provided in the home.

Evidence-based and evidence-informed home visiting can enhance parenting. Home visiting can also promote the growth and development of young children, beginning in pregnancy.
