Community Voices

Communities across Virginia are inspiring others to quit using tobacco and nicotine products, or better yet, to never start.

In Martinsville and Danville, community leaders are working together to reduce tobacco and nicotine use, prevent youth initiation, and protect residents from secondhand smoke, with a focus on improving health within the local African American community.

The Tau Omicron Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity and the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority have joined together to talk the truth about smoking and nicotine. Local community leaders and residents are engaging in a campaign to advocate for change.

As part of the Helping to Clear the Smoke campaign, the Omegas and Deltas are reaching the community through television and radio public service announcements, billboards, and other outreach efforts. By sharing facts about tobacco addiction and connecting people with free resources like Quit Now Virginia, they are helping more Virginians take steps toward a tobacco-free future.

Omegas

The Omega Men are encouraging their communities to make healthy choices now, which will benefit them in the future. They are leading the way to helping kids understand the facts and having important conversations around tobacco and nicotine.

Deltas

The Delta Women know tobacco and nicotine are hurting their community. They are working to ensure that people understand the consequences of smoking and vaping while sharing resources to help them quit for good.
