MRC School Nurses for VDH Vaccination Campaign

Thank you for your willingness to become a Virginia Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) volunteer to support our 2020-2022 vaccination campaign! School nurses are a valuable partner in protecting and improving the health of the community.  The MRC looks forward to working alongside you to provide Tdap, HPV, Influenza, and COVID-19 vaccinations!

Below are step-by-step instructions on how to become an approved VDH MRC Vaccinator:

Step 1: Register to become a MRC Volunteer!

    • Complete a volunteer application in the Virginia Volunteer Health System (VVHS).
    • Please be sure to upload: a profile photo, a picture for your badge; and, copies of: your government-issued identification, DHP licenses, and life support certifications.  If you have any problems with your application, please email vamrc@vdh.virginia.gov.
    • If you live and work in different MRC districts, we encourage you to serve in the district in which you work.
    • CPR Certification: If you do not have a current life support certification, scholarships for online AHA certifications are available (for MRC volunteers). CLICK HERE to apply.

Step 2: Complete the required TRAIN courses.

    • Upon successful completion of your MRC volunteer registration, a TRAIN account will be created for you. DO NOT create a new account. If you already have a TRAIN account, please email: VAMRC@vdh.virginia.gov, to sync your accounts.
    • Log into TRAIN (www.train.org/main/welcome) using your assigned username and password. Search: “VDH: School Nurses MRC Training Plan”.
    • VDH: School Nurses MRC Training Plan – Required Courses
        • 1094642 VDH: School Nurse MRC Orientation Mandatory Training Course -1 Contact Hour
        • 1094648 VDH: School Nurse MRC Training for Vaccinator Competency Course-2 Contact Hour
        • 1094320 VDH: 2020/2021 Influenza Test for School Nurses
        • 1094316 VDH: 2020/2021 Td & Tdap Test for School Nurses
        • 1094315 VDH: HPV Vaccine Test for School Nurses
        • Participants will have two attempts at each assessment. 80% is required to pass the assessments. Once the aforementioned courses are successfully completed, a Public Health Nurse or MRC Vaccination Skills Evaluator will verify your skills competency prior to the vaccination clinic.
        • You will only receive contact hours if you complete the required courses in the VDH: School Nurses MRC Training Plan.

Step 3: Complete COVID-19 Vaccination Training Module.

Visit COVID-19 Vaccination Training Information page for the appropriate vaccination plan based on your routine vaccination experience.
*Note: MRC volunteers are in the priority group for COVID-19 vaccine.  We are also exercising our vaccination plans with free community influenza vaccinations and we encourage all MRC vaccinators to participate.

Step 4: Fill out the post evaluation survey.

After you have completed and passed all required modules, please take a moment to fill out the post evaluation survey to ensure you receive contact hours and certificate of completion.
