Case Investigator/Mid-Level Epidemiologist (2 positions)

Prince William Health District (PWHD) is actively recruiting for two contracted positions for case investigators/mid-level epidemiologists. Responsibilities include providing quality epidemiologic investigations of communicable diseases and outbreak reports for Prince William County, Manassas City, and Manassas Park. These positions are part-time with up to 40 hours per week as needed.

The case investigator/mid-level epidemiologist will:

  • Review disease reports for complex conditions and determine appropriate action.
  • Determine if reported diseases meet case definitions.
  • Produce statewide morbidity statistics using a variety of computer software packages.
  • Conducts epidemiologic investigations by obtaining and organizing follow-up surveillance information from healthcare providers.
  • Evaluates the quality of the surveillance data.
  • Provides disease control advice and writes reports.
  • Conducts onsite review of facilities and procedures including interviewing patients, healthcare providers, and others involved.
  • Assists in collecting data from local agencies and other health entities.

Location:

  • Hybrid work schedule with both telework days and days at the Manassas City Prince William Health District office.

Preferred Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in epidemiology, public health or a related area or equivalent education or experience.
  2. Considerable knowledge of the cause, transmission, treatment and prevention of communicable disease and other conditions of public health importance.
  3. Considerable knowledge of methods of public health surveillance and disease outbreak investigations.
  4. Considerable knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations and policies regarding the reporting and control of disease.
  5. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with healthcare professionals and the general public.
  6. Basic knowledge of statistical software packages.

Volunteer
  • By joining the Greater Prince William Medical Reserve Corps (MRC), you’ll have the opportunity to volunteer and contribute to public health initiatives as assignments become available in our Health District.
  • Our volunteers assist with public health outreach and education, as well as resource navigation in the community.
