CSHD’s Car Seat Safety Program offers free car seats to those who meet certain eligibility requirements.
To apply for the program, applicants must be:
- Eligible for Medicaid ,WIC, FAMIS or qualify by income
- A resident of one of the following localities*: Augusta County, Bath County, Buena Vista, Harrisonburg, Highland County, Lexington, Rockbridge County, Rockingham County, Staunton, Waynesboro. *U.S. citizenship is not required
- If pregnant, in the last three months of pregnancy
- A Parent, legal guardian or foster parent

Alternatively, individuals can also request to participate in the car seat distribution program through an online self-referral form. Access the form here. Please submit documents to verify your eligibility for the program. Once submitted, the program representative will follow up within five business days.
Participants must attend a vehicle safety class to learn about installation and car seat best practices.
