The purpose of Virginia’s Loan Repayment Programs is to recruit primary care practitioners in underserved areas of Virginia and in state and local institutions.
Loan Repayment benefits must only be used to repay qualifying outstanding medical educational loans.
You can apply to all eligible loan repayment programs, but you can only accept one of the programs. Each program requires that you have no other service obligations to any other program.
Online applications are only available and accepted between January 1 and March 31st of the year in which the applicant intends to initiate practice in a Health professional shortage area (HPSA).
For Va-SLRP prospective applicants, visit the Data Warehouse Website and search their databases.
All applicants to the Virginia Loan Repayment Programs are notified quickly if they are not eligible or have not submitted a complete application.
All applicants are notified electronically that their applications have been received.
Applications are reviewed in the order that they are received.
If you have applied to the loan repayment program through the National Health Service Corps, you are advised to call Discovery Logic at (800) 638-0824 directly. The Virginia Department of Health does not administer this program.
If you have applied to either of the Virginia loan repayment programs, you should call the office at (804) 864-7435 or email OlivetteBurroughs@vdh.virignia.gov.
