Mary Washington Healthcare and Rappahannock Area Health District Urge Community to Prepare for Respiratory Illnesses

If you haven’t already done so, now is the time to get your annual flu shot!  All people 6 months of age and older are recommended to receive an annual influenza vaccination.  The 2022 – 2023 influenza vaccine will protect against four different influenza viruses.

  • All persons aged 6 months and older should be vaccinated annually.
  • Vaccination of persons at high risk is especially important to decrease their risk of severe flu illness.
  • People at high risk of serious flu complications include young children, pregnant women, people with chronic health conditions like asthma, diabetes or heart and lung disease, and people 65 years and older.
  • Vaccination also is important for healthcare workers, and other people who live with or care for people at high risk to keep from spreading flu to those at high risk.
  • Children younger than 6 months are at high risk of serious flu illness, but are too young to be vaccinated. People who care for them should be vaccinated instead.
