Due to the impacts of COVID-19 our processing times for applications through the mail are 8 weeks from the time they are received in the Office of Vital Records. If you need your records faster, you are strongly encouraged to utilize the Express Delivery option or to check for walk-in locations near you for current hours of operation. Our main office at 2001 Maywill St in Richmond, Virginia 23230 is operating our public lobby during the temporary extended hours of Monday - Friday 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
You can now create the application form for a vital record online. We recommend using this NEW option for faster processing of your application. Once you generate the Application online, the Office of Vital Records issues an Application (Tracking) ID to track your Application Status Online. You will receive Email/SMS updates on the status of your application by providing your email address and Mobile phone number.
The Code of Virginia requires a cost of $12.00 per certificate/search. There is no refund if the certificate is not found. A fee of $10 is charged for making the amendment to an existing record.
