Public Health Nurse #05875 (Nelson)
Job Description:  Come join us as a Public Health Nurse (PHN) in the Blue Ridge Health District! We are seeking an enthusiastic nurse to support the programs in our Nelson County community. We are one of the 35 health districts within the Virginia Department of Health (VDH). Along with Nelson, our district serves the approximately 250,000 residents of Fluvanna, Greene, Louisa, and Albemarle counties, along with the city of Charlottesville. The scope of our services includes but is not limited to Family Planning, Sexual health, Immunizations, Pre-Admissions Screenings, Communicable Disease Investigations, TB screenings and management, and Population Health Outreach. Duties required of the PHN would be nursing assessment, case management, lab tests and follow-up, and medication and vaccine administration. An individualizes orientation plan would be developed; taking into account the nurse’s existing strengths and learning needs. The PHN may be required to perform other duties as assigned. Participates in emergency operations. As a VDH/state employee, you may be required to assist state government, generally, in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. You also may be required by VDH to adjust work hours, location, and job duties and participate in training to meet public health business needs including emergencies. This position will also engage and be supportive of interventions that address program goals to improve the public health of our district in clinic settings, homes, and other community arenas. BRHD is committed to advance the health equity of our citizens and staff.

Health Counselor
Job Description: The Blue Ridge Health District is seeking to hire a full-time Health Counselor. The Health Counselor is responsible for identifying, contacting and counseling individuals known or potentially exposed to sexually transmitted infections including syphilis, gonorrhea, and HIV/AIDS. Will provide education and counseling on behavior changes that will reduce risk of contracting and spreading sexually transmitted infections. Provides information on resources and methods available to treat and control the infection, as well as to contain further transmission. Motivates patients to discuss sensitive and personal issues about themselves. Contacts physicians to refer and/or obtain information about patients. The ideal individual for this position is a motivated self starter that can work independently in potentially hostile environments outside of a traditional office or clinic setting, is comfortable discussing sensitive subjects with individuals from diverse backgrounds, and can maintain the highest degree of confidentiality.
