Public health nurses give immunizations to protect against vaccine-
preventable diseases

Infants, children, adolescents and adults:

• All children under 18 must come with a parent/guardian.
• Please bring a copy of the immunization record if available.
• For travel immunizations, please be ready to tell us what vaccines you need.  Check the CDC Travelers’ Health website before your health department visit.

Fees
Required childhood immunizations are provided at no charge. All other vaccines have a charge.

WIC Nutrition and Supplemental Food Program

What
WIC stands for the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children.

The goal of the program is to improve the health of pregnant, postpartum and breastfeeding women, infants, and children (under 5 years) through better nutrition and access to health care. The program is funded through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and operated in Virginia through the Virginia Department of Health.

WIC provides:

• screening and referrals to other health, welfare and social service agencies
• nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and support
• supplemental nutritious foods

For Whom

To be eligible for the WIC Program, applicants must meet categorical, residential, income and nutrition risk requirements. 

To apply, you will need to bring some information to your WIC appointment:

• Proof of income (pay stubs, Medicaid card, Food Stamp letter)
• Proof of identity (driver’s license, birth certificate, Social Security card)
• Proof that you live in Virginia (utility bill or other item with your name and street address)
