Maternal- Child Health:
The department offers full prenatal obstetrical and well child services. Case management services are available for high risk pregnant women and infants. A resource mothers program is offered to pregnant teens to improve pregnancy outcome and ensure the teen remains in school. Healthy Families Programs are offered for Suffolk and Isle of Wight to provide intensive support services to overburdened families with newborn children.
Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Program:
The health department administers this federal supplemental food program for financially eligible pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children up to age five.
Family Planning:
Family Planning services are offered for men and women at each department.
Communicable Diseases:
Investigation of communicable disease, counseling and referral are offered. Sexually Transmitted diseases are treated on a walk-in basis in each department. Childhood immunizations and certain adult immunizations are offered at no cost. Foreign travel immunizations are available for a small fee. Immunizations are offered daily in each office and some evenings. No appointment necessary.
Home Care Services:
Home Health and Personal Care services are available.
Health Education:
The district is active in health education activities including community screenings, referral and counseling.
The Environmental services department provides site evaluation and permits for on site sewage disposal (septic systems) and wells. The department also provides inspection of restaurants, schools, day care centers, camps and festival events to insure food safety. Food workers permits are issued by the department upon demonstration of knowledge necessary to prepare and handle food safely. Other services include rabies control and information regarding environmental issues.

Most charges for services are based on a sliding-fee scale.
