Tuberculosis Services

  • Tuberculosis risk assessment and skin testing


A risk assessment will be done to determine the indication for skin test. Skin tests are performed on Monday, 9-11 a.m.; Tuesday, 1-4 p.m.; or Wednesday, 1-4 p.m.  A charge may be applicable. Individuals receiving the skin test must return for reading within 48 hours on Wednesday, 1-4 p.m.; Thursday, 1-4 p.m.; or Friday, 9-11 a.m. or 1-4 p.m. (Note:  No services offered the first Thursday morning of each month.)

  • FREE Confidential HIV Testing and Counseling

Childhood Lead Screening
  • Free lead testing and counseling is available for children found to be at risk for lead poisoning. Case management services are offered for children with elevated blood lead levels.

Newborn Metabolic Screening

  • Free follow-up testing for infants found to have abnormal metabolic screenings at birth or initial metabolic testing for home deliveries
  • Case management or coordination with private medical providers is offered free of charge to families with children with have abnormal screening results

Pharmacy Services

Health Department Patients only
Exception: Clients needing treatment for pediculosis (head lice)

  • Monday, Tuesday and Thursday - 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
  • Wednesday and Friday - 1 - 4:30 p.m.
  • Pharmacy is closed the first Thursday morning of each month.
  • Charges may apply
HIV Testing and Counseling
  • Counseling and testing are done free of charge on a walk-in basis on Monday, 9-11 a.m.; Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, 1-4 p.m.; and Friday, 9-11 a.m. and 1-4 p.m.
  • Free confidential testing and counseling by a registered nurse.
  • Anonymous testing sites can be accessed by calling the Virginia Department of Health AIDS Hotline at 1-800-533-4148.

Sexually Transmitted Disease Services (STD, VD)
  • Medical services including diagnosis and treatment available.
  • Education and counseling.
  • Clinic is held each Friday.  Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and is limited to the first 20 clients who register.  Clinic begins at 12:30 p.m.  No appointment necessary.

Refugee Screening
  • Services are specifically provided for individuals referred through the Virginia Department of Health Refugee Health Coordinators
  • Health Screenings
  • Immunizations
  • Referrals to Community Health Providers

Women's Health

Family Planning

  • Pre-conceptual counseling and family planning services are available to men and women. Birth control information, risk reduction information and screening for sexually transmitted disease, sickle cell screening, and birth control methods (IUD, Depo-Provera injections, birth control pills, condoms and other barrier methods) are available. Fees for services may be determined on a sliding scale based on household income.   Special service times may be available for new teens.  Spanish-speaking staff may be available for interpretation.

Maternity

The Health Department has a joint partnership with VCU/MCV Hospital to provide maternity care for Chesterfield County clients at the Health Department. Our prenatal clients receive medical visits, post-partum care, and nurse office visits as necessary. Delivery, acute high-risk care and emergency care are provided at MCV Hospital. The MCV doctors provide 24-hour, on-call care for Chesterfield Health Department Prenatal clients. Spanish-speaking interpreters may be available at the Health Department. Chesterfield Health Department and MCV Hospital provide maternity care for some HMO Medicaid programs. Fees are determined on a sliding scale based on income. The Health Department has an on-site Medicaid Eligibility worker to help facilitate the Medicaid application process. Fees for MCV Hospital services are determined by the hospital and may be scaled according to MCV guidelines.

Pregnancy Testing

  • Pregnancy testing and counseling is available Monday through Friday, 8:30 to 11 a.m. and 1 - 4 pm. (Services are not available on the first Thursday morning of each month.) There is a $15 fee. Services are offered free to Medicaid clients and teens age 18 years and younger or still in school.
