Pediatric Care
  • Pediatric Service
    Well Child/Preventive Health Maintenance Exams up to age 5 years. Case management and home visiting services are available for high-risk clients. Fees are determined on a sliding scale based on income; free or reduced charges are available for low-income clients, Medicaid clients and teenagers under 18 years of age. Sports physicals, school entrance physicals and special education physicals are also available.
  • Sick or acute care for children are referred to Health Care Alliance or Community Health Providers
  • Childhood Lead Poisoning
    Free lead testing and counseling for children found to be at risk for lead poisoning. Case management services offered for children with elevated lead levels.
  • Newborn Metabolic Screening
    Follow-up testing for infants found to have abnormal metabolic screenings at birth offered free of charge. Case management or coordination with private medical provider offered free of charge.

HIV Testing and Counseling
  • Free confidential testing and counseling by a registered nurse every Tuesday 8:30 - 11:00 am or 1:00 - 4:00 pm.
  • Anonymous testing sites can be accessed by calling the Virginia Department of Health AIDS Hotline at 1-800-533-4148
  • Refer to Health Promotion and Community Outreach for more information


Refugee Screening
  • Services are specifically provided for individuals referred through the Virginia Department of Health Refugee Health Coordinator

Women's Health

 

  • Family Planning, Contraceptive Services and Counseling
    Annual GYN exams for women desiring birth control, birth control information, and contraception information are provided at the health department. Norplant, IUD, Depo Provera Injections, Birth Control Pills, condoms and other barrier methods are among the contraceptive choices available. Fees are determined on a sliding scale based on income; free or reduced charges are available for low-income clients, Medicaid clients and teenagers under 18 years of age.
  • GYN Exams are offered for all women. Appointments are necessary.
  • Maternity Services
    Colonial Heights prenatal clients receive case management, post-partum care, and home visitation by Health Department professional nurses if indicated. Colonial Heights Health Department is a Medicaid Medallion Provider for Prenatal patients. Fees are determined on a sliding scale based on income. Delivery, acute high risk care, and emergency care are provided at MCV Hospital. MCV doctors provide 24-hour, on-call care for Health Department Prenatal clients. Spanish-speaking interpreters are available at MCV Hospital. Fees for MCV Hospital services are determined by the hospital and may also be scaled according to MCV guidelines. An MCV Hospital financial eligibility worker is at the Health Department periodically to facilitate the MCV financial eligibility process and the MCV registration process if desired by prenatal clients.
  • Pregnancy Testing
    Pregnancy testing and counseling are offered free to Medicaid clients and teens age 18 years and younger; $15 fee for all others. Testing is done on Tuesdays 8:30 - 11:00 am and 1 - 4 pm.
