Booster Shot Required for School

By Virginia State Law, all students entering the 6th grade in September 2007 are required to have received a tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) booster shot if at least five (5) years have passed since receiving a tetanus containing vaccine or they do not have a medical or religious exemption. A number of medical providers have this vaccine. Parents should call their child's physician or clinic for more information.

The Health Department is providing the Tdap booster shot at no charge for all students entering 6th grade in September 2007. Please bring the child's current shot record. Parents/guardians/or the adult coming with the child will be able to sign the necessary consent form. Students will not be able to start school if they have not met this requirement.
