Pharmacy Connection Program

In 1994, the LENOWISCO Health District received a grant from the Virginia Health Care Foundation to develop this program. The goals for the program were two-fold: First to assist eligible patients in acquiring prescription medications at no or reduced cost directly through the indigent programs operated by the pharmaceutical manufacturers, and second, to develop a software program that contains the necessary application information and the actual forms to access these programs. In addition, this software assists in tracking valuable demographic information and stores physician, hospital and clinic site information. The software has been developed tested and updated into Windows format, copyrighted and s available through the Virginia Health Care Foundation. It is currently in use in over 200 locations throughout Virginia and has assisted in accessing over $500 million dollars in prescription medication for Virginians.

This program, called Pharmacy Connection, has served over 160,000 patients statewide, with most receiving assistance for more than one prescription medication. Since 1997, the program has accessed over 1 million free prescriptions valued at $246 million for Virginians. Funding for the continuation of this valuable program is currently being sought.

For more information call the Pharmacy Connection Program directly at 800-744-7370 (in Virginia) or you may reach a coordinator at the Wise County Health Department at 276-328-8000.
