2002 Marriage Before the Carriage Winner
Heather BrownOn Tuesday February 12th, 2002 seven monthly Marriage Before the Carriage
winners gathered inside the showroom at Elliot Chevrolet in anticipation of who
would winner the 2001 Jeep Wrangler and who would win the $1000 savings bonds.
Dr. Doug Larsen and Jo Anne Kelley acted as co-master of ceremonies for the
night, with such local dignitaries as Staunton Assistant City Manager James
Halasz and Waynesboro Mayor Charles Ricketts speaking.
With the night coming to an end each monthly winner was called to the stage in
the order that they won and asked to pick a heart shaped box. As they
stood on the stage, they were instructed that one box had a picture of the Jeep
and the other's had a statement about the $1000 savings bond. A drum roll
was played by the crowd, and each winner was instructed to open their box.
After each opened their box a shocked Heather Brown raised the heart shaped box
above her head towards her family and everyone knew that she had won the 2001
Jeep Wrangler donated to Marriage Before the Carriage by William Elliot of
Elliot Chevrolet-Jeep.
When asked why she entered the contest she stated that "Babies are too
expensive, and that she had friend's who are having babies, so she learned from
that", she also stated that her married sister just had a baby girl last
October, and she sees how much work goes into caring for a baby and right now
she is not ready for that type of responsibility and will wait until she is
married before considering children.
We would like to send a special thank you to everyone who participated in the
Marriage Before the Carriage "A Work Of The Heart" campaign during the
last year. Without your support, none of this would have been
possible! We would like to also extend an additional special thanks to
William Elliot and family for donating the 2001 Jeep Wrangler, and to our
business partners and community representatives for their continued support of
this worthy cause. Lastly we would like to thank everyone who participated
in the promotion and their families, whether you won or not, you have made a
commitment to not have children before marriage and that is the best prize that
anyone could have given you and your community. Only together can we fix a
problem that was started long ago, but we will.
