Epidemiology is concerned with the distribution and determinants of the public’s health.
This involves the systematic collection, analysis, and interpretation of data regarding health-related events. The goal is to reduce morbidity and morality and improve health.
The day to day activities of epidemiology include but are not limited to; monitoring the occurrence of reportable or emerging diseases, investigating health-related outbreaks within the community, developing polices and procedures in the event of an emergency provide recommendations and guidance to prevent the spread of communicable diseases, and communicate important health-related findings to the community.
