Those in the field of epidemiology work to reveal the risk factors and causes of health conditions that affect the public. This work involves the collection, analysis, and interpretation of health-related data.
By better understanding the risk factors and causes of various health conditions, it may be possible to reduce the overall morbidity and mortality throughout local communities and the nation.
The activities of your local epidemiologists may include; monitoring the occurrence of reportable diseases, investigating outbreaks of disease, working with local agencies to develop plans to address emergency situations, providing recommendations to prevent the spread of communicable diseases, and communicating important health-related findings to the community.
