Trauma Patient Hypothermia

This visualization was developed in November 2025 for the Virginia EMS Advisory Board’s Medical Direction and Trauma Governance Committees as part of a statewide Performance Improvement initiative focused on evaluating and enhancing prehospital warming practices.

One in five major trauma patients transported by ground and air EMS had an initial hospital temperature below 36.0°C, including 3–5% below 35.0°C.
Early temperature management represents a statewide opportunity for improvement.
