Hotel and Lodging Permits and Applications

Before opening a new or extensively remodeled lodging facility (hotel, Bed & Breakfast, Campground, Summer Camp) or transferring ownership, the lodging operator must obtain a lodging permit from either the Richmond City or Henrico County Health Department. There is a $40.00 fee for this permit, which will be issued when the facility is complete and in compliance with the Virginia Department of Health Lodging Regulations. To help you avoid any last minute frustrations, the Henrico County Health Department conducts a thorough plan review for which there is a $40.00 fee.

Lodging Plan Review

Our Lodging Plan Review checklist will assist you in gaining compliance with the Virginia Department of Health Lodging Regulations. We suggest that you review this information as it applies to your planned lodging operation. The information entered on the plan review form must correspond directly with the plans submitted for the Health Department review. We suggest that you attend a plan review conference prior to final review of your plans. Please contact the Health Department at (804) 501-4529 for additional information or to schedule an appointment. The cost of the Lodging Plan Review is $40.00.
