The Vital Records Office records deaths and issues death, birth, marriage and divorce certificates. The cost for certificates is $12 per copy.
Birth, Marriage, and Divorce certificates are also available from the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Health.

How to Apply in Person for a Vital Record

You can now create the application form for a vital record online. We recommend using this NEW option for faster processing of your application. Once you generate the Application online, the Office of Vital Records issues an Application (Tracking) ID to track your application status online. You will receive email/SMS updates on the status of your application by providing your email address and mobile phone number.
The Code of Virginia requires a cost of $12.00 per certificate/search. There is no refund if the certificate is not found. A fee of $10 is charged for making the amendment to an existing record.
