Emergency Medical Services Satellite Training (EMSAT) is a monthly, one-hour interactive training and information program for Virginia EMS and Fire personnel. EMSAT broadcasts and DVDs offer required EMS topics at the ALS and BLS levels, and enrichment classes that may not be widely available throughout the state. Certified Virginia EMS providers may receive category I continuing education credit by viewing an EMSAT broadcast at a designated state site. Providers may also receive category III continuing education credit for viewing EMSAT DVDs.
With the proper equipment, viewers at Designated EMSAT Sites in Virginia are now able to get Category 1 and 2 Continuing Education Credit via the internet. This is at OEMS Designated EMSAT Sites only, not at home or your office. We are currently offering web streaming of live EMSAT programs at the same time as our regular C-band satellite broadcasts. This interim step toward on-demand web-based continuing education offers both existing and new EMSAT sites the ability to view the program. It consists of live broadcasts using C-Band satellite, and at the same time, a live (slightly delayed) feed of EMSAT via the internet. EMSAT broadcasts will continue to take place from 7:30-8:30PM on the third Wednesday of each month. OEMS Designated web-based sites must have the latest version of Media Windows Player, an LCD or DLP projector and a high-speed broadband internet connection. We have noticed that not all broadband is created equal. The better your connection, the better it will look. To request an application to become a web-based EMSAT site, or for more information on EMSAT, please contact Tracie Jones or Terry Coy at the Virginia Office of EMS. (800) 523-6019, (804) 864-7600.
