Critical Incidents are unusually challenging events having potential to create significant distress, overwhelming a responder's usual coping mechanisms. This three-day course combines two Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) courses, Assisting Individuals (Peers) in Crisis and Group Crisis Intervention. Participants not only learn the fundamentals of and specific protocol for assisting peers in crisis, but also gain the knowledge and tools to provide several large and small group interventions. The need for appropriate follow-up services/referrals will also be discussed. There is a $40 additional fee for this course.

Why do people kill themselves? How do I ask someone if they are feeling suicidal? What do I do if they say they ARE suicidal? How do I deal with the strong emotions suicide generates? This course provides answers to these questions and others that many crisis interventionists have about suicide. It will provide participants with basic information about suicide as well as help participants develop practical skills for prevention, intervention, and postvention. Small group role plays will allow participants to apply suggested techniques.

PRE-001 Defensive Tactics Workshop

This two-day class will cover basic principles of personal safety/self defense during combative situations. Motor skill techniques will be taught that will enhance survivability in combative situations after you learned the scene was "safe" when it really wasn't or it changed while you were in it. After learning the basic skill techniques day one, day two will put these skills learned together in situational life like scenarios for appropriate applications. Due to the physicality of this course, students will be expected to be physically able to perform defensive tactics learned in this class and must be able to move around freely and easily. Wear comfortable clothing and footwear suitable for exercise.

PRE-004 Medical Management of CBRNE Events

This course will equip pre-hospital and hospital medical personnel with the skills needed to ensure proper patient triage, treatment, and transportation in the event of exposure to chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive (CBRNE) weapons. The course delivery methodology consists of facilitated discussions, small group exercises, hands-on activities, and task oriented practical applications using both adult and pediatric human patient simulators to promote critical thinking skills while utilizing the RAPID Care concept. In addition, course participants will receive training on the proper techniques for protecting themselves and limiting cross-contamination.
