Prepare yourself to be in that situation and know your options and equipment by seeing and using the latest surgical airways in use today. Hands on learning with anatomically correct Swine Tracheas with several equipment options will be reviewed to secure a failed airway.

HandEDU-817 Socratic Teaching [Without the Hemlock]
BLS CAT 2 / ALS CAT 2 / 1.5 CEU
Target Audience: Educator

Great instructors pull course content out of students rather than pushing it into them. They elicit students' existing knowledge and build on it, rather than assuming that students know nothing. How do great instructors do this? By asking questions as often or more than they "present" content. Join us to learn the four types of questions to ask (fishing, cold-calling, partnerships, and surveys), plus six secrets for asking far more effective questions. You'll spend about half the workshop designing and trying out new questions for your next class, and checking out the questions that others come up with.

PREP-5019 Tools for Evidence Based EMS - How to Read the Medical Literature
BLS CAT 2 / ALS CAT 2 / 1.5 CEU
Target Audience: All

When you review published clinical trials, you want to get to the real task: deciding if a study provides something reliable upon which to base a change in your practice or that of your agency. However, many providers get discouraged by the unfamiliar statistical jargon, as well as the mathematical contortions sometimes used to "spin" the results of clinical trials. Using examples from the current EMS literature, we will overcome some of these barriers to our critical reading. If you really know the basic meaning of concepts like "confidence intervals" and "statistical significance" then you can move past them to really understand clinical trials, using what you already possess: your common sense and clinical knowledge.

The wrong approach can be detrimental to communicating with the individual and the necessary patient care.
