Transition Plan for New BLS Practical Exams
The Office of EMS has established a Transition Period to allow candidates who need
to retest after September 1, 2009, an opportunity to retest under the old practical exam series. This
transition period applies to all BLS providers, either new or recert. Although this is a change in the
Practical Exam for Certification, this should not effect your ability to successfully complete the new
Practical Test as these skills have always been a part of the Curriculum.
-
All candidates who take their first test after September 1, 2009 will be required to take the
new practical exam
-
Candidates who have taken their first test prior to September 1, 2009 and are still in their
90-day retest window, will be allowed to retest under the old practical series.
-
Candidates who have taken their first test under Secondary Eligibility prior to September 1, 2009
and are still in their 90-day retest window, will be allowed to retest under the old practical series.
-
A candidate who is in reentry and has starting testing on or after September 1, 2009, will be
required to complete the new practical exam. (Reentry requires the written exam as well)
-
A candidate who has completed their first series of testing and is obtaining CE for Secondary
Eligibility or has obtained all required CE’s but has not started testing prior to
September 1, 2009, will be required to complete the written and the new practical exam.
