Important Information About Online Continuing Education

Before selecting an online continuing education (CE) vendor, please review the information below.

  • CE completed through approved third-party vendors does not post immediately to your OEMS CE Report.

  • CE is typically submitted for processing to your portal account the day following course completion. CE records are updated by 0600 each morning.

    • Providers should allow 48 hours after course completion for eligible CE hours to appear.

  • If CE hours do not appear after this timeframe, you must contact the third-party vendor directly for assistance.

  • Course completion certificates are for personal records only and should not be submitted to OEMS unless requested for CE error correction.

  • CE completed through vendors not listed on this page will not be accepted for Virginia EMS recertification directly from the vendor.


Virginia OEMS-Approved Online CE Vendors

To receive CE credit toward recertification, Virginia EMS providers must complete courses through Virginia OEMS-approved third-party CE vendors listed below.

When registering with a vendor, providers must:

  • Use their Virginia EMS certification number

  • Select the correct certification level

  • Follow any Virginia-specific instructions provided by the vendor

Failure to use the correct certification number or level may result in CE hours not being awarded.


Third-Party CE Reporting Guidance

CE Reporting Timeline

Approved CE completed through Virginia OEMS-approved third-party vendors is submitted to the Office of EMS through automated electronic reporting.

  • Course completions are grouped by calendar day (00:01–23:59).

  • Records are processed after midnight following the date of completion.

  • Providers should allow 48–72 hours after that processing point for eligible CE hours to appear on their OEMS CE Report.

Example:
A course completed on January 31, 2026, should post no later than February 2, 2026, assuming no reporting errors.


If Your CE Hours Do Not Appear

If CE hours do not appear on your CE Report after the expected reporting timeframe, you must contact the third-party CE vendor directly.

Virginia OEMS does not have the ability to:

  • Troubleshoot vendor platforms

  • Resolve login or account issues

  • Correct reporting errors submitted by vendors

These issues must be resolved by the vendor before corrected records can be transmitted to OEMS.


Planning Ahead for Recertification

Providers are strongly encouraged to complete all continuing education hours and recertification requirements at least 30 days prior to their certification expiration date to allow sufficient time for processing, validation, and correction of any reporting issues.


Approved vs. Non-Approved CE Vendors

  • Only CE vendors listed on this page are approved to report CE hours to OEMS.

  • Vendors not listed on this page do not report CE hours to OEMS.

  • Some approved vendors report CE hours automatically.

  • Other approved vendors do not report CE hours automatically.

If a vendor does not report CE hours automatically, you must follow the vendor-specific reporting instructions listed on the OEMS website, or your CE hours will not be credited.


Important CE Reporting Reminders

  • CE completed through approved third-party vendors cannot be self-reported.

  • Education Coordinators do not upload or award CE for vendors that report CE hours directly to OEMS.

  • Duplicate courses completed within the same certification cycle are not awarded CE credit more than once.

  • CE must align with the appropriate certification level and content area.

In order to receive credit towards recertification, each provider must utilize the website links below and complete the vendor’s registration form paying special attention to any links that are specific to Virginia’s EMS Providers. Virginia providers must utilize their Virginia EMS certification number and provider level as printed on their certification card when completing vendor registration. Failure to utilize the proper certification number and/or level will result in credit not being awarded. Do not enter your NREMT certification number as NREMT does not report to your Virginia CE Report.

Approved CE vendors report student completions, daily, to the Office.   These credits are automatically applied to the provider’s OEMS CE Report within 24-48 hours of completion of the course. Course completion certificates issued by the online CE vendor are for your personal use only and cannot be used by the Virginia Office of EMS to verify CE taken.  You may print a certificate for future reference – they are not to be sent to OEMS.

Only courses completed through the vendors listed above may be utilized for CE credit in Virginia.   Courses that are completed on websites that are not listed on this page will not be counted toward recertification.
